Strand Descriptions
Band
The purpose of this major is
to provide students with instruction in the application of musicianship and
technical skills through band instrumental ensembles and the study of
varied band literature.
Wind Ensemble
The purpose of this major is to
provide students with opportunities for leadership and creativity in the
interpretation and performance in specific instrumental instrumentations
through the study of varied literature.
Jazz Ensemble
The purpose of this major is to
provide students with a foundation to develop and apply styles and idiomatic
performance techniques of varied contemporary popular music and jazz literature.
Orchestra
The purpose of this major is to develop
independence in musicianship, performance techniques and aesthetic awareness through
the rehearsal and performance of varied orchestral literature.
Keyboard
The purpose of this major is to
provide students with instruction in the development of musicianship and technical
skills through keyboard performance and the study of varied keyboard literature.
Chorus
The purpose of this major is to
provide students with experiences in vocal productions and instruction in the
application of vocal musicianship and technical skills through the study of
varied choral literature.
Guitar
The purpose of this major is to
provide students with experiences on the guitar in technical skills using performance
techniques and the development of musicianship through the study of varied guitar
literature.
Music Theory
The purpose of this major is to develop
independence in analysis and application of musical fundamentals as practiced in the
various historical periods.
