Applying for College Cheat Sheet

Application:

1. See “State University Application Deadlines” link in box on my website for dates/websites/deadlines

2. Include EVERYTHING about you aside from transcript data (Resume)

3. Pay application fee (or get fee waiver if on free/reduced price lunch)

4. Essays (include something extra about yourself even for schools that do not require one)

5. Tell them how much you want to attend their school

6. Letters of recommendation (ask teachers NOW).

7. Early Decision/Early Admission

8. Common Application (www.commonapplication.org)

9. Financial Aid

Transcripts:

1. Next year, go to Guidance, and fill out a transcript request form to send your transcript to all colleges you apply for.

2. GPA re‐calculation – Colleges look at academic units only and how well you did in academic classes!

3. Senior year classes and grades MATTER!!!!!!

4. 4 units of Math now required (Alg I and above)

SAT:

1. Earliest Test Date Next Year: October 9th ‐ Registration opens May 25th and ends September 10th!!!

2. Send scores to FERGUSON – OUR SCHOOL CODE IS 101846

3. SEND SCORES TO COLLEGES when you register for tests !!!!!!!!!! Not included on transcript!!!!!

4. Get test fee waiver before school ends this year!

Essay Topics (Be Fearless!):

UF: In the space provided, please write a concise narrative in which you describe a meaningful event, experience or accomplishment in your life and how it will affect your college experience or your contribution to the UF campus community. You may want to reflect on your ideas about student responsibility, academic integrity, campus citizenship or a call to service. (500 words)

FSU: For almost 100 years, the Latin words "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State

University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds -moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of

intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe

how one or more values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life. (500 words)

UCF: Write about 2 of the following 4 prompts: (250 words each)

1. If there has been some obstacle or bump in the road, in your academic or personal life, please explain.

2. How has family history, culture or environment influenced who you are?

3. Why did you choose to apply to UCF?

4. What qualities or unique characteristics do you possess that would allow you to contribute to the UCF community?
